The web gives you access to a huge range of information, but with perhaps 65 million websites it's important to know how to find what you want. Here we will find out how to use one the most popular search sites called Google.
Firstly you need to tell Google what you are looking for by typing in the question or information that you are looking for into the search box. Try finding out about the planet Mercury by typing the word ‘mercury’ into the search box, then press the Google Search button.
Google scans the web looking for all the websites which contain the word mercury displaying the results in a list on its search results page. The problem is that it can return a list of thousands of websites and not all of them will be exactly what you are looking for. That’s because mercury is a very broad term, we need to narrow down our search to something more specific.
If you want a website about the planet mercury to appear at the top of the results list, we can try again by typing the words Planet and Mercury into the search box.
